System Center 2012 SP1: Capabilities

In this module you will learn how System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1) has been enhanced to support Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 through simplified configuration and deployment of the cloud infrastructure components.  You will see a broad range of improvements to the servers and cluster as well as storage and networking to provide standardized services, delegated capacity, and cloud abstraction across a diverse infrastructure. 

First you will find out how System Center supports bare-metal deployments of all resources including Hyper-V hosts which uses deep discovery from the hardware manufacturer to configure additional settings.  Next you will see how to optimize your storage infrastructure through expanded SMI-S support and better traffic management. 

You will then hear about how the abstraction of the network infrastructure can provide multi-tenancy and isolation in the private cloud to support Software Defined Networking (SDN) that allows you to create virtual networks that span physical networks.  Finally you will learn about failover cluster deployment enhancements with storage and networking.

In this module you will see how System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1) has been enhanced to support Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 through simplified configuration and deployment of the private cloud infrastructure.  You will learn about the concepts of abstraction, heterogeneity and control which allows you to have standardized services, delegated capacity, cloud abstraction, with a standardized and yet diverse infrastructure.  Private Cloud concepts that will be covered include the logical grouping resources into clouds, the virtualization of most of the physical infrastructure components, delegating access and resource utilization across clouds, and how to consume capacity beyond your datacenter by taking advantage of 3rd party service providers and Windows Azure. 

Next you will learn about virtualization enhancements such as service templates, the service designer, deployment previews, and the self-service portal.  Finally we will show you how to take advantage of your heterogeneous datacenter through support for multiple hypervisors from Microsoft, VMware, and Citrix and how to deploy and configure Linux guest VMs.

You will see how the concepts of standardization and self-service are used to drive efficiency in IT service management.

Next you will learn how importing data and runbooks can enable self-service and automation through connecting the Orchestrator and Service Manager components of System Center, along with new Integration Packs for automation across clouds. This consistent view of the datacenter across different components provide configuration item visibility across the infrastructure and can be enhanced by the Cloud Services Process Pack to provide new Service Catalog content. You will also learn about self-service through service catalog and role-based access to the simplified self-service catalog. Finally you will see the customizable chargeback and reporting features.

In this module you will learn how System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1) has been enhanced to support Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 through simplified configuration and deployment of cloud applications. You will see the application delivery lifecycle for scalable applications that enables a standardized approach to deploying applications while defining availability and performance-driven SLAs.

You will learn how to create applications through standardized service templates to enable a consistent approach to deploying applications across private and public clouds. You will discover the benefits of Server App-V for abstracting the application from the OS, and understand how Application Performance Monitoring (APM) provides the ability to define desired performance levels for application built with .NET, MVC and WFC. Also learn how monitoring extends to the public cloud with the Azure SDK and Global Service Monitoring (GSM), and provides JEE monitoring on IBM Webshare, Oracle WebLogic, Redhat JBoss & Apache Tomcat. Finally see how the end-user can be empowered to deploy their apps while having visibility of quota utilization across applications running both on-premise and in other clouds.

You will see how System Center 2012 SP1 allows you to be proactive and automatically correct issues in order to provide higher availability and quicker recoverability. You will learn how to monitor OS, compute, storage, and networking components to help ensure infrastructure SLAs are maintained by being able to quickly view infrastructure component health, diagnose alerts, and resolve problems.

Next you will see how extensibility through management packs allows you to easily manage all parts of your heterogeneous infrastructure for cross platform visibility, including applications running in Windows Azure. You will learn about major investments in network monitoring through automatic discovery, consolidated view of network performance, and Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V virtual networks. Additionally you will hear about storage monitoring improvements such as alerts from thin provisioned disks, historical data, VM mapping, and SAS array management. Finally you will learn about backing up Microsoft workloads both on-premise and to Windows Azure, as well as options for handling service and datacenter failures with a focus on automating recovery.

In this module you will learn how System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1) has been enhanced to support Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 through simplified monitoring and operating of the private cloud infrastructure.  You will see how the concepts of optimization, control and standardization can be used to delegate capacity and provide cloud abstraction across a diverse infrastructure.  This will help ensure that the services running in your private cloud get the resources they need, and that your cloud dynamically reallocates resources as demand changes. 

System Center 2012 SP1 can help protect your private cloud infrastructure by setting limits on your clouds while ensuring the correct owners have access to their cloud resources with role-based access.  You will learn about how standardization can be applied to application and OS updating through service templates.  You will be able to report on the current utilization of your private cloud, trend usage over time, and forecast future needs. 

Finally you will see how you can optimize cloud utilization through dynamic optimization & power optimization, as well as reporting improvements to VMs running Linux distributions in the guest OS.

In this module you will learn how System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1) has been enhanced to support Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 through simplified monitoring and operating of the service delivery and automation layers.  You will see how integration has provided end-to-end visibility for all types of IT service management needs. 

Next you will learn about service-level agreements, release management, change management, incident management, as well as both reactive and proactive operations.  After this will you see the new and improved reporting features such as chargeback, the System Center data warehouse, Excel BI and dashboards, and dashboards in SharePoint.  Finally you will learn about integration across the infrastructure, including Integration Packs for automation within the private cloud and across clouds.

In this module you will learn how System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1) has been enhanced to support Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 through simplified monitoring and operating of cloud applications.  You will see how to manage and monitor app across private clouds and Windows Azure, as well as learn about performance driven applications with deep insight and diagnostics and proactive monitoring and reporting for .NET, MVC, WCF and SharePoint. 

Next you will learn about abstraction with Server App-V, consistency with Service Templates, control with the System Center App Controller self-service portal, Global Service Monitoring (GSM) for websites, and extensibility to 3rd party clouds with the Service Provider Foundation (SPF) feature.
